Planet Fitness showers and locker rooms look like….a locker room, only purple—nothing special about it. Being only in the male locker room, It smells at times; it’s a locker room. Sweat is all the norm, and the bathroom is the first thing you see (in the ones I have been in). 

I never touch the faucet handles or locks when using the bathroom, but this should be the norm in any bathroom. If you ask if their bathrooms are plush and clean, something unique…the answer is NO.

Remember this: People who work in fitness places, do you think they want to clean locker rooms and bathrooms?

I’ve seen the attendants cleaning, so I know they do it. At one outlet, I saw an old guy cleaning, but when I went to the bathroom, he hadn’t done anything worthy regarding cleaning. I wouldn’t walk barefoot in one or naked. Come dressed, leave dressed. Since I wrote this answer, I moved to a new location; there was a Planet Fitness, so I transferred my membership.

The new locations seem larger with more weight, and the Locker rooms are superb. I DO take showers at Planet Fitness now. Lol. I feel sorry for the people who work there; it seems that members think their mothers clean the locker room, and so they come and go with spoiled conduct.

Yes, Planet Fitness has showers. A clean club is one of our top priorities, from the front lobby and fitness machines to locker rooms and showers. Planet Fitness is the facility that we currently use to work out and shower. 

You can buy a pass for about $10 per month to use one Planet Fitness gym. To use multiple Planet Fitness locations, you must purchase a black card. This card costs roughly $20 a month and requires a 1-year commitment.

Planet Fitness has over 1,400 locations across 49 states. You can see a map of all locations here. It is one of the most widespread fitness chains in the US. Despite this, there are a few caveats to consider. Although the black card membership allows you to use multiple gyms, the contract states that you can only use facilities outside your ‘home’ gym ten times per month.

We have not personally encountered any problems going over this limit, and we have not read about anyone having problems using the gym more than ten times per month. However, it is something to be aware of; monitoring gym visits is the responsibility of the owner of each facility.

Along with a black card membership, you get a free pass to bring a guest. Traveling with a partner will allow you to get by with just one pass for the two of you. Remember that you do not have to work out if you want to go in and grab a shower.

Someone left their shorts and underwear on top of the shower pole….I came back that night, and they were on the shower floor. Eventually, they end up in the garbage, but the members are nasty. I commend the staff that cleans those places. But the locker rooms are so much better. The location I attended in the past moved to a larger building, so the locker room was better also.

I take showers after each workout. I’m happy they’ve restructured the new facilities. At the Planet Fitness I typically go to, there are sixty or more full-height lockers, each with three hooks and a shelf. You must bring your lock to secure your stuff in a locker. There are benches affixed to the floor. The shower area is in a separate adjacent room. There are four showers, one of which is accessible.

Across from each shower is a little changing stall for privacy. Also, there is a TV playing music videos. I have been in a couple of other Planet Fitness gyms, also. They had a mix of half-height and full-height lockers, but you could secure your items with your lock. Not all locations have private changing stalls. All were fairly clean.

But if you want to know a specific time on a specific day. If you go to Google and type in Planet Fitness hours, it gives you a list of times the least to most people are there. Like most businesses, Planet Fitness is usually busy between 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m..

Planet Fitness feeds off of your insecurities. They create an environment that is more comforting to people who don’t want to face the reality that they aren’t as fit as other gym-goers. This all sounds pretty harsh, but is there any other reason why there would be alarms against anyone pushing their limits?

When someone drops weights, Miss uses equipment and lets it slam or lunk to the floor. They also judge the clothes people wear to the gym. Link alarm sounds, and they embarrass the heck out of the person they deem unfit. 

PF is good for walkers who can’t deal with outside walking in hot or cold weather; their leg and rowing or step machines are good starter machines, but if one needs to step up in workouts, go elsewhere. I have been a member for five years. But I only use PF to walk on the treadmills to stay out of the cold or the heat.

Their sanitation of the machines sucks. Our PF uses hand sanitizer instead of a good germ-killing anti-bacterial disinfectant. Flu season – they still use the diluted hand sanitizer. I take my wipes. I care about my health. They don’t care! But it’s a great place to stay out of the weather.

The only thing the dress code specifies is no work boots, no stringer tanks that would expose nipples, and no gallon jugs of water.

Of those three, the only time I would ever say anything to anyone is to put their gallon jugs in a locker (if it spills, it creates a slipping hazard) and work boots because they can track in dirt, etc., all over the place. More so than not, people are minding their own business, and I wouldn’t dare embarrass them or myself by making a scene telling them they need to leave or change.

As far as I can see, it’s no jeans, no do-rags, no skullcaps, no bandanas, no boots, no sandals, no crop tops, no shorts, no string tank tops & no grunting, dropping weights. No competing fitness logos. Supposedly, it’s very cheap to be a member & there’s never a wait for machines. The terms seem okay to me.
