But if you want the utilities and play around with those, get the passport drive. Both are available in multiple storage and USB 3.0 options.

I own a WD My Passport Ultra. The basic differences between Elements are as follows:

  2. The most valuable feature is WD Security, which allows the drive to be locked until you enter a password, and it just unlocks instantaneously.
  3. Lastly, though not so important, My Passport Ultra looks good and comes in various colours, while Elements does not.

Both WD Elements & WD Passport are 3.0 USB external drives compatible with USB 2.0.

WD Elements is a basic drive and doesn’t come with any fancy software with it. Just plug and play.

While WD Passport comes with WD Backup software & encryption of the drive.

It also comes with 256-bit AES hardware encryption. Both WD Elements and WD Passport provide the same performance.

WD Elements provides a two-year warranty, and WD Passport provides a year warranty.

But the point is, will you ever use it? Although I bought it last summer, I found the software laggy and never used it the second time.

If you want those utilities to, go for the Passport or the WD Elements, which is pretty basic.
